Until 2023 I was a Professor and the Head of School in Computer Science in the University of New South Wales in Sydney Australia. Prior to this from 2010 until 2020 I worked in the University of St Andrews as a Professor in the Chair of Human Computer Interaction. During this I was the director of SICSA the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance. Before that I was an Associate Professor and Director of the HITLab Australia in the University of Tasmania. I spent almost five years before this as a College Lecturer in the University College Dublin in Ireland where I moved in 2005. Before this I was a Senior Research Fellow in the University of Sydney Australia, a position I started in 2002. In 2001 I was a Visiting Researcher with MERL research labs in the USA. In 1999 I joined the University of Newcastle Australia as an Associate Lecturer and before this I was a Research Intern (during my PhD) in 1998 with Semantic Designs in Austin Texas. From 1995 until 1997 I was an ALT on the JET Program in Hizen-Cho Japan. During my college years I worked in Ireland, Germany and the USA in various roles including as a software engineer, purchasing assistant and store manager.
